The Metallix Plus Bluetooth Speaker by Creative, is the bigger brother to the ‘Metallix’ which is a smaller round Bluetooth speaker.
They both have impressive sound for their size, and after using this Plus model for the last few weeks, I can honestly say I’m impressed.
I already like Creative products and have been using their desktop speakers for many years. It’s actually now possible to completely eliminate the need for having wired speakers on your desk, using these new speakers from Creative.
I have paired this to my computer, and when I’m done for the day I simply pick the speaker up and take it with me. I can then carry on using it with my mobile phone for watching YouTube or listening to music and making calls etc. When I return to my desk, I just bring the speaker with me and I’m good to go.
There are 2 full range drivers in the plastic speaker cabinet, and a passive radiator in the middle, which adds more bass. I think it really does make a difference to the overall output from such a small unit.
The Metallix Plus has a 24hr battery life, it’s splash proof with a water resistance rating of IPX5, it uses Bluetooth 4.2 and is also has an auxiliary input (small 3.5mm jack), which I doubt many people will use, but it’s a welcome feature. Always handy to have.
All of the controls are on the top of the speaker and they all have a soft rubber coating. You can control everything using these buttons from audio playback, play and pause, previous and next tracks, and you can use the bluetooth button to enable pairing mode and also launch the smart assistant on your phone such as Siri if you’re using an iPhone.
Another great feature is the ability to pair 2 of these units together, which will of course increase the soundstage.
I really like the speaker and I’m struggling to find anything wrong with it. Sure, a full water resistance rating would be better, but for the money I think this is a great speaker that will serve you well for a long time to come.
